PERSONAL INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE FOR GTL PROCESS
I am going to share my interview experience of Google ( Google India Personal Interview Experience) with all you.  I attended the Interview in Google India Office in Hyderabad on June 4th 2011. It’s one of the very good interview experience for me. The Job profile on which i attended the interview was “GIS Analyst“.
June 4th 2011 was a very big day for me since i was attending the interview in Google. I actually cleared all the rounds before this Final HR Round. I have done my best in preparing for the interview. GIS Stands for Geo-graphic information System, if selected we need to work on Google Maps. Since we need to work on Google Maps, we should have a thorough knowledge in geography. I learnt all the states and their capitals, all the Oceans, all the Wondres of the world, all the currencies in the world and the list goes on endless. I gave the best effort i can preparing for the interview.  I went to the Google Head office in Hyderabad at 9.Am in the morning with a photocopy of the email i received. The security people didn’t get the information form their officials that students are coming to take their interview, so we were not allowed inside. We Stood out infront of the Google Office for almost an hour waiting for the conformation. At 10.5Am, the security people got the conformation, then we were allowed inside. We were tired standing one hour in the Hot Sun. At last the security clearance was done and we were allowed inside. we entered into the Hi-Tech city, we need to got to 10th Floor for the Google Office. So After entering into the Hi-Tech city(Block B) we were stopped once again because the security people of Block B hasn’t got the conformation yet. So we are once again made to wait, but this time we sat comfortably in the chairs for 15 more minutes. After 15 minutes the Security clearance was done and we were allowed into the 10th Floor of Google India Office.  Finally we reached the destination we want. Even in the 10th floor we had some security cards(Stickers) printed with our name, we wore them and they took our CV’s and we are waiting for the interviews to get started. The interviews started at 11.00Am, and i had to wait for one more hour for my turn. Finally i was called at 12.00Am for the interview. The HR who interviewed me was “Karthik”, I went into the interview cabin and he introduced himself and the interview started.
First Question to me was “Tell me about yourself”, I answered confidently. He starred at my very long 2 page resume for few minutes and asked me the second question “Why was your academic percentage less?” I actually have a percentage of 63, which is fair enough. I answered the HR in many ways but he was not satisfied. He again started asking me the same question, and i tried to convince in many different ways with different answers, but has was not convinced. He moved to the next question ” Are you Good in Geography?”. I said, I m not so good, i am average. He asked me to point some states in India, North America, South America. I was half-strucked with his question because i am not aware that there will be this kind of Map-Pointing. I pointed some states successfully in NorthAmerica, and India and failed to do it in “South America”. I was even unable to answer some cities in South America.
After Map-Pointing my next question was “Are you Good in Math?” I replied I am very good in Math. He asked me some Questions in Math and asked to solve it, which i failed to do so. So my next question was “Are you Good in Physics?”. I replied i am good. The Question to me in Physics was like this:
Q: “A truck travelled for 10,000 Kms without Stopping, In the Journey of 10,000Kms which tyre of the truck(front/rear) will go out first. Which means which will get damaged more?”
I thought for a minute and answered that “Front Tyre” will go out first. The HR said I m correct. but he asked me to say the logic behind it, “Why the Front Tyre will get Destroyed?” I said him that it’s because of the friction, and tried to explain the logic. Unfortunately he’s not satisfied with my answer and i was gone wrong once again.
After that he asked me many questions like “Why are you interested in Google?” , “What’s the Difficult decision you have ever made?” “Why Should I hire you?” and many more questions like this. I answered them and at last  i was asked to write a essay on a Topic, I have done it and i was asked to leave and they said that they will inform the result to us through the consultancy(Rofous) we have attended. It was 1.30PM when i completed my interview. So the HR interviewed me for 90minutes, which is the biggest interview i  ever had till now.
I came out of the Google office and was waiting for the result, next day i was informed that i was rejected, which is not a surprise to me, because i know that i haven’t given my interview in the best way. I was not worried because i didn’t performed upto my potential and more importantly it was a very good experience for me for my future interviews.
So If any of you reading this article was attending for the same interview, learn from the mistakes i made and be very thorough in Map Pointing and in General Questions like Maths and Physics.
