More than 70 of the world’s languages in the blink of an eye

If you took a quick snapshot of content available on the web, you might think that everyone around the world spoke English, Chinese, French or Spanish. But in fact, millions of people around the world speak an incredible array of languages that currently have a small presence across the web.

Google Translate helps bridge the divide between the content available online and people’s ability to access that information. Starting today, you can translate another five languages using Google, which combined are spoken by more than 183 million people around the globe:

  • Bosnian is an official language in Bosnia and Herzegovina that’s also spoken in regions of neighboring countries and by diaspora communities around the world.
  • Cebuano is one of the languages spoken in the Philippines, predominantly in the middle (Visayas) and southern (Mindanao) regions of the nation.
  • You can hear the Hmong language spoken in many countries across the world, including China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and throughout the United States.
  • Javanese is the second most-spoken language in Indonesia (behind Indonesian), with 83 million native speakers.
  • Marathi is spoken in India and has 73 million native speakers. Google Translate already supports several other Indian languages: Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

Google Rumored to Be in Talks to Acquire WhatsApp For $1 Billion

Content Originally posted here on Mashable

Another year, another WhatsApp acquisition rumor.

Digital Trends reports hearing from an inside source that Google has been in talks to buy the hugely popular messaging app for the past few weeks and the current offer is said to be "close to" $1 billion.
If this sounds familiar, it's because Facebook was rumored to be interested in buying WhatsApp at the end of last year, though the price tag was never publicized for that rumor. If the $1 billion figure is correct, it would put WhatsApp in the same ballpark as Instagram, which was acquired by Facebook last year.
WhatsApp is the most popular of a new crop of mobile messaging apps that some say pose a threat to bigger companies like Facebook and Google. The app, which lets users send messages for free across smartphone platforms, launched in 2009 and has tens of millions of users. It's currently the No. 1 app in Apple's App Store in dozens of countries, according to data from AppAnnie, and it has been downloaded more than 100 million times on Google Play.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month that Google had approached WhatsApp, though it didn't indicate when or how serious the talks might be.
A rep for Google says the company does not comment on rumor or speculation. WhatsApp did not immediately respond to our request for comment.

Join Google Business Group (GBG)

Join Google Business Group (GBG)

India has a large number of SMEs but only a small percentage of them are online and have the advantage of access to a global marketplace and benefits of enhanced productivity and efficiency. We’ve heard a lot of business owners say they’d like to learn about what they should be doing online. Sometimes the most useful thing is to hear it from someone that’s doing it right!

We are excited to announce Google Business Groups (GBGs) in India. So, if you run an enterprise, are a business professional, or just plain interested in Google products, here is your chance to become a GBG Manager and organize your own business gathering.

We are currently looking for new community organizers (aka GBG Managers) to start 30 chapters in the following cities in India: Hyderabad, Cochin, Chandigarh, Delhi, Mysore, Hubli and Dharwad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Madhurai, Coimbatore, Agra, Mangalore, Patna, Kochi, Ludhiana, Surat, Bhopal, Kanpur, Nagpur, Pune, Jaipur, Indore, Nashik, Vadodara, Bhubhaneshwar, Vishakapatnam.

With GBG you have the freedom to create your own opportunities whether you choose to be a member, manager or speaker (or all three). These are the three driving principles of GBGs. You will meet interesting people in your community, learn together how to use web technologies for your business and unleash new ideas through inspiring speakers and conversations.

Google Business Group(GBG) is a community led program represented by local groups (GBG chapters) which organize social gatherings, workshops, online hangouts, larger events and other activities where like-minded business professionals can connect, learn and get inspired on how Google products and web technologies can improve efficiency, productivity and impact overall success of their business.

You can find more information about the program, testimonials from current GBG Managers around the world, the scope of activities as well as what you could expect from Google on the GBG website.

Each group is organized by a local volunteer (GBG Manager) and is entirely independent from Google, the corporation. You can also refer any of your friends, family or colleagues for the post of a GBG manager. Just ask them to complete this short application form. and we will schedule an online meeting with one of our Google representatives who will explain more about the opportunity.

Case filed against Google Mapathon by Geological Survey of India

Google Mapathon a contest conducted by google India was a huge success among the mappers as many important edits were mapped and the project mainly became famous because it was the first of its kind- CROWD SOURCING.
Crowdsourcing is the practice of obtaining needed services, ideas, or content by soliciting contributions from a large group of people, and especially from an online community, rather than from traditional employees or suppliers. Often used to subdivide tedious work or to fund-raise startup companies and charities, this process can occur both online and offline
Users were given a chance to make edits through Google Mapmaker a tool generally used to report problems, make changes or add new places to Google Maps. The contest started February 12th 2013 and ended on March 25th it was meant to create better maps in India, the users were attracted by the prizes that were offered based on their number of edits that were approved by other mappers. Google invited users to help "create better maps for India" by adding knowledge of their neighborhoods and promised the top 1,000 mappers prizes of tablets, smartphones and gift vouchers.
But when everything ended well Geological Survey of India a government organization started the criticizing Google that it had not followed any instructions and did not respond to its letter.
Survey of India first wrote to Google saying its "Mapathon" was against rules and then filed a police complaint, R.C. Padhi, a top official at the agency, told Reuters.
"We have to ensure that security is not compromised at any cost," Padhi said, adding that some information uploaded on Google Maps could be "sensitive".
Google is open to discussing specific concerns over the issue with public authorities in India, Paroma Roy Chowdhury, a company spokeswoman in India said in a statement.

Google Product: Google Mouth freshener

Did Google launch new product in

India?

Google products include Mouth

fresheners?

Does Google want to spread their

market?

Free World Answers questions about google's new

product namely Google Mouth freshener

IMG_2028

In the market while roaming through the busy streets of Hyderabad in a typical pan shop I found a product that amazed me for the whole day i.e Google Mouth Freshener. Copyrights or trademarks are not bothered in India this is a great example to it. Even a global Internet giant is being criticized although free world delivers products like movies and music for free, this article was written in astonishment.
Google has many offices in India especially Hyderabad, Mainly the Maps is handled in offices at Kondapur, Hitech city and even Testing of products such as Google Music.
Jobs in Google maps is a comman job for a Hyderabadi the recruitment's are handled by companies called vendors namely
Article about Google jobs can be found in the Jobs category.
Getting back to our new product the google Mouth Freshener is being sold in open market although Google has clear TM trademark registry of its brand, now its time to see how google responds to its unknown partner the duplicate google.
The colors are very vibrant and the content of the pack also meets its standards of being a normal mouth freshener somp.
Does brands like HALLS and MINTO FRESH need to worry about this product

The FBI's Most Wanted on Google Maps

The FBI has created a Google Map of criminals that are wanted for bank robbery. I'm tempted to say that the biggest criminals here are the designers of this FBI map - but then I would never criticise map developers, who are after all my bread and butter.

The FBI - Bank Robbers Nationwide Map shows the location of bank robberies and allows users to view photos and physical descriptions of those wanted for the crimes. Users can search the map by 'name' (God knows what that means. Whose name are you meant to enter - the criminals??), by 'city' or by 'state'.

My major problem with this map is it is just plain ugly. I'd have liked to have seen just a little time and effort spent on the design of the map, including creating more attractive map markers and information windows. However, from browsing the map, it is is obvious that the FBI have more pressing concerns, such as employing some half decent criminal sketch artists. The biggest criminal on evidence in this map must be the sketch artist employed to create the portrait in the picture above.

Navigation and traffic data come to Google Maps in India

More than a billion people rely on Google Maps every month to get the most accurate and reliable directions from point A to point B. We on the Google Maps team, however, know that simply calculating a route is just the beginning when it comes to helping people find their way across town or across the continent. That’s why we have worked to improve the comprehensiveness and usefulness of Google Maps through advanced features like voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation and live traffic updates.

We’re excited today to announce that both of these features are now available for Google Maps users in India — one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing markets for online map services worldwide. Google Maps Navigation (Beta) is free and accessible to any smartphone user running Android 2.2 or later, and live traffic information is visible on both the mobile and desktop versions of Google Maps.

Google Maps Navigation takes advantage of your mobile Internet connection and Google’s comprehensive map data to help you plan your journeys with confidence. In India, you’ll have access to information about any of the thousands of cities, towns, roads, and points of interest that have been mapped by users in Google Map Maker. In other words, whether you’re heading to the Bengaluru airport for a business trip or visiting Agra’s world-famous Taj Mahal for a weekend of sightseeing with friends, Google Maps Navigation has you covered. Your phone will announce upcoming directions to you as you move along your route — and it will even use a friendly and familiar Indian accent if you’ve selected the Indian English locale on in your phone settings.

Of course, Google Maps Navigation is also incredibly easy to use. There is no separate app — it’s already available directly in the Android app launcher and in the Google Maps interface for users who have Google Maps for Mobile installed on their Android smartphone. (Just keep an eye out for the blue arrow, which will always point you toward navigation.) Also Google Maps Navigation takes advantage of Google’s unparalleled search expertise to find the places you care about. You can type (or even speak) the name or address of your favorite destination into the app and trust that Google will correct your spelling and get you the right result. Finally, since your Android smartphone always has access to Google’s most up-to-date map data, there’s never a need for you to work through a cumbersome manual upgrade process.

To complement the launch of Google Maps Navigation in India, Google Maps will also begin to offer live traffic information for major roads in six large Indian cities and their surrounding suburbs: Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad. As in other countries, Google’s traffic data is shown in a simple and readable color scheme — red for significant congestion, yellow for minor slow-downs, and green for free-flowing traffic — to help you analyze the traffic on your route with just a quick glance. You can view live traffic by enabling the traffic layer onmaps.google.co.in or in the Google Maps app on your smartphone, or simply by visiting google.co.in and entering a query like ‘traffic in hyderabad’. (If you’re using maps.google.co.in in a desktop browser, Google Maps even allows you to check “typical” traffic conditions for a particular day and time, based on our wealth of historical data.) Finally, in places where traffic data is available, Google Maps Navigation will take congestion into account to ensure that you’re always given the directions most appropriate to current conditions.

We hope that the many Google Maps users in India will enjoy these new ways to take advantage of Google’s extensive map data. The next time you’re on the subcontinent, just check the traffic, tap the blue arrow, and drive safely!

Note: While the Google Maps app itself is a free download from Google Play and Google doesn’t charge users for access to Navigation, the Google Maps app does require an Internet connection and users are responsible for any mobile data charges they incur while using the app.
